Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Notice

Miami University and Community Federal Credit Union (MUCCU)’s website is directed at users age 18 and over. We do not intentionally or knowingly collect information on children under age 13 through our website.

Accounts for young members (“Kiddie Hawk” accounts) must be opened at an MUCCU branch, with a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian present. A parent, grandparent, or legal guardian must be listed as a joint owner on a Kiddie Hawk account, and must consent to the credit union’s collection of any of the child’s personal information. Kiddie Hawk accounts cannot be opened or initiated online. Should a child under age 13 attempt to open an account online, MUCCU will, upon discovery of the child’s age, delete the personal information submitted by the child from its computer system(s) and/or attempt to notify the child’s parent or legal guardian that the child’s personal information was submitted.

If a Kiddie Hawk account holder or joint owner uses MUCCU’s Online Banking service, the service may occasionally ask for the child’s personal information (specifically birth date, ZIP code, and/or last 4 digits of his/her Social Security number), in order to verify that the user has the credentials to access the account online. The entry of this information will be used solely for verification purposes, and must match the child’s information already in MUCCU’s account records, obtained previously with the permission of the parent, grandparent, or legal guardian. MUCCU may occasionally submit a child’s personal information to our approved third-party service partners, at the partner’s request. A parent or legal guardian may ask that his or her child be opted out of such submissions when opening the child’s account, or later on by contacting the credit union.

A parent or legal guardian has the right to review his or her child’s personal information collected, ask to have the information deleted, and/or refuse to allow any further collection or use of the child’s information. Such requests may be made by contacting the credit union.
